Bio(This is an in-character journal for a character on Hogwarts Express MUSH. All info herein is IC knowledge, yada yada yada, behave yourselves.)
Arlo Mitchell was born on December 29th, 1959 in Liverpool, England. Arlo's father, Jarod, worked as a bouncer at a local nightclub while his mother, Julia, quit her job as a waitress shortly before their son was born. It wasn't a rich family by any means, but it was a happy one, and that really was all that mattered to them.
The happiness suffered a blow when Arlo was six, however, and his magical talents manifested. Jarod had been reading the paper and little Arlo wanted his attention, so, he tore a hole in the newspaper - from across the room. Frightened and confused, Jarod shooed his son off to play with his friends while he had a talk with his wife, who revealed for the first time that she was a witch, and that she had worked as a waitress in a little place called The Leaky Cauldron. The conversation did not go terribly well and in the end, the pair divorced, with Arlo taking his mother's surname of Fairfax. Arlo didn't take the news of the divorce very well, and even less so, the sight of his father packing a suitcase.
Jarod stayed in the area to continue to help supporting the pair and to help raise their son, maintaining a strained but amicable friendship with Julia, largely for Arlo's sake. When Arlo's Hogwarts letter arrived, however, Jarod realized that his son would be gone for a vast majority of the time, and after talking to the pair of them, made arrangements to move back to his native Sydney, Australia once the school year started.
He was sorted into Slytherin, after a very ponderous moment of silence from the Hat. Despite his somewhat rocky home life, Arlo had an easy time making friends once he arrived at school and got himself settled into his new daily routine. He enjoyed his classes, got his work done in a timely fashion, everything that was really expected of him. Arlo and his mother visited his father over Christmas break, and Arlo fell in love with Australia at first sight. That same trip, he was introduced to surfing. Christmas visits to Australia became a tradition.
Arlo's time at school continued along at its comfortable, expected rate, though as he got older, he developed a bit of a temper and a tendency to speak his opinions without much worry for the feelings they might hurt, which had the side-effect of getting his housemates to stop asking him why he wasn't in Hufflepuff instead - something he felt was a very positive side-effect. His third year, he took on the electives Divination and Hearth and Home, both of which he enjoyed immensely. The marks he achieved on his OWLs were a very pleasant surprise to him, and upon returning for his sixth year, he trimmed his curriculum down to a much more managable (but still slightly crazed) four classes.
